Sushi, Please - Part 2

My little sushi project got pushed off until Friday.  It was much more difficult that I anticipated.  It started out that I couldn’t find the tempura shrimp to make the Crunchy Shrimp Rolls so I improvised and just used my shrimp and a few other veggies instead.  I found that I am 100% successful at making non-sticky rice. While this is usually a great thing but its not so much when you’re attempting to make sushi.  Imagine how much fun it was to have rice falling out of the roll. I also over-toasted my nori. Yeah, that sucked because it things slightly more difficult since it was a little harder to roll. My first maki roll ended up way too loose and the second completely fell apart.

The upside is that it still tasted awesome and I had a completely hysterical hour of “me” time!  This is definitely something I’m going to try again. I haven’t laughed so hard at myself in a long time.  The best moment was when Reggie decided he wanted to hang out under the table and on his way some of the rice fell out of the roll onto his head.

Sushi, Please

One of the things that I miss most about ExH2 is our similar taste in food.  Monday evening I treated him to a movie & dinner as a belated birthday present and we started talking about some of the restaurants we miss in the Green Bay/Appleton area.  One of the restaurants was a cool little sushi place on the east side (I have no idea if its still open or not).  Since then I’ve had an insane craving for sushi.  I don’t know of anyone other than him that’s willing to have sushi with me so I’ve been without Sushi since our last visit to Green Bay when we went for his birthday last year.

Last year he & I bought little sushi plates, chopsticks, bamboo mats, & nori sheets so I have everything I need except the fillings.  We just never got brave enough to try to make it ourselves.  This afternoon I came across the site Sushi Day which has instructions & recipes.  This craving is so intense that I’m just gonna dive in & take a stab at it tonight.  I’m super excited!  I’m thinking about trying the Crunchy Shrimp Roll since I can’t seem to get enough shrimp lately either.
