I’ve been a little busy over the past few days. I was finally able to get into one of my storage units. It is the one where the majority of my belongings were stored for the past 6 years. To say there was a lot of stuff in there would be an understatement. My goal is to have the unit empty by the end of the month so my apartment suddenly looks like I just moved in, again.
Anyway. Like I said, it’s been 6 years since I had my hands on most of the contents since there just wasn’t room in TheHut for it. Here are a few of my favorite treasures I couldn’t wait to get my hands on.
First treasure, Mom’s cookbooks.
These are everything about “home” to me. They contain several holiday recipes Mom made over the years.
I love flipping through the cookbooks, remembering which recipes Mom tried. Seeing her handwritten recipes that were tucked away between pages and fall out while I flip through, the notes she wrote on the recipes, the stains from her touching the pages while she cooked… it’s everything.
Looking through these cookbooks require a blanket, my favorite spot on the couch, and either a hot cup of tea or glass of wine.
I have yet to make a recipe from either of them.
My next treasure is my wine rack.
This was a wedding gift from one of my bridesmaids. A handful of months before the wedding we were out shopping and she saw me eyeing it up one day. Remembering how much I loved it, she and her hubby picked it up for the big day. It is one of two gifts I clearly remember opening.
The wine rack is the inspiration behind everything I buy for my kitchen. I’m so excited to have everything I’ve been collecting over the years in one place. The color of my kitchen even works with the theme… so yay.
Do you want to know the best part? The wine rack was never hung. I never had room for it. I now have the perfect spot for it so that’s going to change shortly.
Finally, the one item I found that I forgot about. An item I haven’t looked at in 20 years, it’s just been moving all over with me… This dress.
I wore it to a Christmas party when I was 18. I’m excited that I fit it again. I’m excited I actually bought a timeless dress. I’m excited there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. It just has to be cleaned. Excuse the horrible picture. It was the best I could do with the weird lighting in that room.
I love the fabric. I love the small tail in back. I love how it feels when I wear it (I may or may not have had it on while I was unpacking stuff yesterday.)
I’m determined to find something to wear this dress to this holiday season.
