Freya is a snackie queen. She especially loves cookies. I was buying her the Three Dog Bakery treats but it was getting really expensive to keep up with her sweet tooth. I decided to try a Peanut Butter and Honey Dog treat recipe I found online. When I was baking it, I thought it was going to be too dry for her liking. However, because I told her that they were her cookies that I was baking, she insisted on giving them a try.
I’m so happy she did. It was hilarious when she took a bite of her first warm cookie. Her eyes were HUGE and filled with delight. When she was finished she kept licking her lips and smacking her mouth to tell me how much she enjoyed them.
And, boy, did she enjoy them. I made 32 cookies for her and they’re nearly gone already. I’m going to have to make another batch before I go to bed tonight.
3/4 c. flour
1 TBSP honey
2 tsp peanut butter (Freya likes Extra Chunky)
1/4 c. vegetable shortening
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 c. rolled oats
1/2 tsp vanilla
Optional: 1 tsp water (was really dry & crumbly without it)
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Put the honey and the peanut butter into a bowl and microwave for 20-25 seconds. Stir to mix. Add the remaining ingredients and mix. Add a little water if the dough is too crumbly.
Drop the dough by teaspoonfuls onto a baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 min.
