Last week it was my turn to be on-call for work. I generally don’t mind being on-call because it’s only one out of every five weeks and the extra cash is a nice little bonus. My only complaint is that I don’t work at the building that needs support. It sometimes takes me longer to answer a call and I always have to call a co-worker for assistance at least once during the week because an issue will come up that I don’t have the first clue how to support because, well, I don’t work at the building that needs 24×7 support.
Anyway, last week I was on-call. It was a pretty normal week and since Friday was a holiday and optional for me to work (Native American Day in Michigan & I work for a tribe), Thursday night I made the decision not to. Apparently some higher power didn’t like the decision because right after I made that decision I got SLAMMED with pages. I started Thursday evening with only 5 pages and ended the week with 22. SEVENTEEN pages from 10:00 pm on Thursday to 2:30 am Sunday morning. I can’t even begin to tell you how far beyond unusual it is to get 22 pages in a week… its rare that someone even gets 17 in a week!
So between my pager going bonkers and dealing with personal issues I don’t think I slept 7 hours since I woke up on Thursday morning. When I woke up this morning I called in tired and asked BossMan if I could use an annual day. I felt so guilty for not going to work because of a lack of sleep that I ended up coming in. SO… now I’m here at work and because I’m so exhausted I keep “seeing” bugs run across the desk. lol. There really aren’t bugs running across the desk but when I blink a little black shadow will dance across the desk & spook me for a second – until I realize that I’m so overtired that I’m starting to see things. After this happening 3 times in under an hour I ran up to the store & grabbed an energy drink… thank goodness there are no more “bugs”!
