I started in IT nearly 10 years ago, actually working in the same job I’m in now. I stayed for over 3 years but ended up leaving because got frustrated because I wasn’t getting moved out of entry-level. A year ago when I applied for the job again I had serious reservations about it because, well, it was an entry-level position and I’m far beyond entry-level. But because I wanted to work for my employer – basically wanted back in the department – I took the job and prayed that I wouldn’t get stuck at entry-level forever.
A few weeks ago I was on the phone with my manager and he nearly made me fall off my chair. Without any push from me (not a single conversation), he was trying to push a raise through for me. He let me know he was trying to get it approved by July 1 so that my new wage would be applied with the annual raises in October. Monday I got a call from him where he informed me the raise went through and should be on my upcoming check and we’d meet next week to discuss it. There was no mention of how much it was or if I had a new title so I assumed it was like a 50¢ raise. I nearly passed out when I opened my check this morning and saw that it was actually a 25% increase.
